The day began with a crispness in the air and the promise of perfect weather for a 5K. You could feel something, "different" upon arrival. There was a quietness and stillness, even amongst the noise of nature and humans alike flowing around us. The show of camaraderie in support of the same cause was evident. The runners, supportive, reflective, and true, ran this race like the stars that they are. The beauty of humans, vastly different, coming together for the same cause, is something touching to witness and special to be a part of. Each runner joyously crossing the finish line was cheered and encouraged by all. An individual race, yet a team-like atmosphere was present.

After the final runner ran through the finish line, it was time to transition to the William R. Gaines, Jr. Veterans Memorial Park ADA Kayak Launch Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.

A launch that will allow those with or without disabilities the opportunity to safely enter the water in their kayak, to enjoy the therapeutic healing effects that being on the water and immersed in nature can bring.

The ceremony was a meaningful and somber event. Speakers shared with those in attendance their appreciation for the help in provisioning such a launch for their community, but most importantly, they spoke from the heart.

Their words would make the biggest impact in the hearts and minds of those listening, and for some, they would hear the history and reason behind the William R. Gaines Jr. Veterans Memorial Park for the first time. "A story that must be told".
